Michael Jackson continues to inspire people in every corner of the world as someone who chose to use the extraordinary gifts and talents he was blessed with to deliver messages of hope, love and peace. Michael's legacy is more than his remarkable artistic accomplishments. It also includes an indescribably unique spirit that still connects Michael today with countless fans in a way that knows no borders, no cultural barriers and which speaks a common language of unity and compassion. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with his children as we fondly remember the Michael Jackson whose friendship, humor and kindness joyously touched so many lives.
I became an M.J fan in August 1994 when i saw Bad`s Music video for the 1st time,all i remembered about him before then was that,he was the guy in a poster at a record store,who wore a fancy black leather jacket & had a long curly hair. The closest view i got then was through the school bus window. I was little and did not know much about him,i was even lucky to have seen that video coz my friends just arrived from the states and apart the cool toys they brought,M.J`s tape was the coolest coz it had most of his dance routines on it.The moon walk to us was like magic,we had to rewind times over but still could not do it. We gave up the dream of showing off when school reopened. Some weeks after resumption i over heard some seniors talk about a superstition floating around then,that U have to go bury some coins at the beach before you would be able to do dance like M.J. At last i knew there was hope,after school i met my friends and told them.
They looked puzzled after hearing the news. Bury coins at the beach??, how are we going to do that???? they asked,my wide smile slowly turned into a frown. I guess i got carried away coz come to think of it, non of us received money at that time & even if we did,how were we suppose to tell our parents about our mission at the beach ??. we had our lunch boxes,fruit juice plus our parents paid so we get fed in school too."Mission Impossible 6" lol
The only time i received money was on sundays,that was for offertory and there was no way i could even hide that coz my dad mostly waited till its collection time before pulling out 1 note from his wallet and then march me to the box. I had to wait till Christmas coz i`m 1000000% sure i would get money from relatives who came visiting . Christmas was too far plus even if it wasn`t,i still had 1 problem & that problem was that i lived with a ROMAN TAX COLLECTOR "my mum",my only hope was that they hand me the cash in her absence but no!!!!! what they gave me wasn`t so much but they always wanted my both parents to be around before handing me the cash. Pissed much!!. Its not a Grammy or an Oscar for crying out loud. As usual she waits till they gone,takes the money whiles telling me the exact same story she has been telling me since she resumed office as a ROMAN TAX COLLECTOR. "let me keep it, add more money and buy you your favorite toy". I reluctantly gave it to her but never spared that mean look ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER gave in the COMMANDO movie when he was being put on the plane against his will. "In my mum`s defense,she always bought my toys even when relatives don`t hand me cash"
I gave up the M`J dance dream that Christmas,joining my buddies on the loser bench coz they gave up theirs months earlier. At least that made me the tough guy coz i did not give until all hope was completely lost. After Christmas break we removed our loser tags coz we heard some guys claimed they buried coins and still can`t dance like M`J..lol. Happy again we adopted the new trick of wiping our terrazzo floor clean,pouring dustin powder on it,put on an old sneaker which had less friction and just Moon walk like M`J. Yes!!! we could do the moon walk but at the expense of our mama`s Dustin powders.Guess its true what they say,there is a price you pay for everything.
Today marks M.J`s 2nd anniversary and below are lines from his song, "Will You Be There" which is one of my favorites. He is the King of Pop & i know he is now with "THE KING OF KINGS & THE LORD OF LORDS". May His Soul Rest In Perfect Peace.
